Excerpt: The Pursuit of God, The Human Thirst for the Divine, A.W. Tozer

O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, The Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wondered so long. In Jesus' name. Amen

Back to the 80's

Terry and Araya attended a Father Daughter Dance at her school.  The theme was the Retro 80’s.  Those were the years my kids were born in.  I’m wondering how they feel about being Retro?  I guess better than my being vintage!

I did a couple of scrapbook pages to celebrate the occasion.  I may do some more because I stole some cute pictures of Araya from Jessica's Facebook page.

If you are interested in the digital kits I used, the link is below the pages.

The kit information is HERE.

We have had a lot of rain this weekend and the temperatures have been fairly cool.  Mark was able to do a little bit of work in between the showers yesterday, but not today!  He watched motorcycle and auto races today.  It's the day of rest, anyway, so he needed to relax before going back to work tomorrow.

Praying you have a wonderful week!

More Days Gone By

Mark's childhood friend and neighbor he grew up with came for a visit last weekend.  The land that our woods and fire pit area is on was actually land she sold to Mark before we got married and then I finished paying it off after we were married.  Mark is planning to work on a cabin this year since he has a sawmill now.  It will be near the fire pit area.  One good thing about the land being paid off is that if the state ever decides to finish widening and improving NC109 our house will be history but we will have a place to go on our own property!  I think originally that was supposed to happen next year, but the grapevine says that project is way down the project line!

Anyway, last week while Robin and her brother, Kenneth, were here she wanted to take a walk back through the woods to see what all Mark has done with the fire pit area, etc.  It was wonderful to finally get to meet her in person.

February 12th

Robin lives closer to the coast, but Kenneth lives near us, so Kenneth and I hung back to let Mark and Robin talk and catch up.

This past Friday, the 18th, was a beautiful, sunny day.  We met Ilene and Carolyn in Wallburg for breakfast.  Afterwards, we came home and Ilene took Carolyn to her house.  I cleaned up the kitchen and did a load of laundry while Mark worked on getting tin for the sawmill shed and getting some of it installed.  While he was doing that and after I got my work done, I went on over to Ilene's with plans for Mark to join us over there for supper and then to play games afterwards.  We ate about 7:30 to give Mark opportunity to work as long as there was daylight.  We played games until around 11:00.  I drove Carolyn home.  Mark followed me most of the way until I got to Carolyn's road.  Our house is only about 4 miles from Carolyn's.  We are actually closer to her than Ilene is.

At Wallburg Diner and Pizzaria for breakfast

Ilene, Carolyn and I finished this puzzle while waiting to start supper.  It was hard!  But we gotter' done!

After supper was on the three of us played some Rummikub.

Besides Rummikub, we played Farkle, a dice game.  I ordered another game, Qwirkle, to add to our repertoire of games to play with Ilene and Carolyn.

All good times must come to an end!  However, I am sure Ilene would let us stay all night, LOL!  Thanks so much for your sweet hospitality, Ilene!  We all love you!

Monday, February 21st

And, another week has begun!  Today I have been working on some scrapbook pages.  I've been trying to scrap some of my childhood pictures and older, miscellaneous family pictures.

This is one of Joey, Kim and me that was taken at the Indiana State Fair in 1963.  It almost looks like a picture from one of those photo booths.  None of us looks very happy.  And we look like we were crammed into a tight spot to get all three of us in the picture.

This is a picture I got from someone of Tim's mom's dad, Harry Day.  He was a good looking man!  It was a picture of a picture someone was holding in their hand.  It had a rip in it that I took care of in Photoshop.

I heard a phrase that resonated with my heart quite awhile back from our pastor, "in acceptance lieth peace".  He said it was a quote from Amy Carmichael, a missionary.  Today, while working with this kit named, "Contentment" I remembered this phrase.  In googling the quote today I found this poem by Hannah Hurnard.

I pray you are content today!

Spendthrift

Have you ever thought about this word?  Spendthrift.....made up of two words that, when used separately, have opposite meanings.  When you are spending money, you are losing money.  When you are being thrifty, you are saving money.  I looked up the definition to "spendthrift" and found this:  it is a noun and means a person who spends money in an extravagant, irresponsible way.  From dictionary dot com, the word, "prodigal" is associated with it. The Bible says in Luke 15:16 of the prodigal son, he "wasted his substance with riotous living."  He wasted it; squandered it.  He was a spendthrift.....not a thrifty spender!

Don't ask me where the thought of a spendthrift came from!  I did spend lots of money today, maybe that is where the thought came from.  However, I really was not wasting money on anything.  I took Ilene to Costco after we ate lunch at Olive Garden (hmmm....maybe that qualifies me to be a spendthrift).

I took Ilene back home and carried her groceries in and then left so I could go home and split up the meat I bought into serving-sized packages to freeze.  We've got enough meat for a couple of weeks now!  And the best part is that it was free with our Costco rewards!

Days Gone By

Mark sent me a text today and asked me if I wanted to go out for a Valentine's lunch or Ruby Tuesday for dinner.  Since I had just eaten, I opted for dinner at our favorite place.

After warmer temps last week we were back to frigid 20's this morning!  It got up to high 40's but the wind was blowing and even though the sun was shining, it was COLD!

I found some vintage-type kits in the store and decided to create some scrapbook pages from days gone by.

Wintry Stuff

Frosty Moments

Journaling reads:  It was a surprise to hear from Mark about an hour before I was due to leave the house to take the car for the appointed oil change, tire rotation and check for air leaks in the back two tires.  I had not been outside yet and Mark told me to be careful driving on the road because there could be icy patches.  I hurried outside with the camera to get pictures of the icy tree branches.  It was beautiful.  But, it was warming up and the ice was beginning to melt.  I was glad there was no ice between our house and the garage!

My process (if you are interested)

I used the template, adding 2 different papers, blending them both together for the very background. Then I stretched the paint element behind the framed pictures to clip the larger photo to. I recolored the tree elements from the template. From there I added different pieces of the artsy transfers to the background adding the green and blue colors. I changed the word art and wordmix elements to white. I thought the bottom of the layout reminded me of an icy covered pond, so I added the skater element because of that. I had a great time picking out all of the elements, transfers, word art, etc for the layout!

Define "Fine"

I read a proverb today from the daily email I get from The Old Farmer's Almanac, which I signed up for last year when I took on the raised garden bed, 3-tiered boxes project. The proverb reads, "If February gives much snow, a fine summer it doth foreshow."  What does that mean, exactly?   I am thinking what is "fine" for the one who wrote the proverb may or may not be "fine" for someone else.  Does "fine" mean low humidity?  If so, I'm OK with that!  I can stand more heat if the humidity is low.  Or, does it mean perfect weather?  I'm OK with that, too, but now we need to define "perfect!"  Perfect for me means no to low humidity, 70 to low 70s, sunny, blue skies, shirt sleeve weather!  Or, does "fine" depend on where you are on this vast planet we call Earth? The weather I am experiencing might be fine for me, but the weather somewhere else might not be fine for those who live there!  By the way, it IS beautiful here in NC today.......nearly perfect to me.....because I did have to wear a light jacket out.  66 and sunny with no humidity, blue skies and a breeze is mighty fine to me! 😁

Any day Mark can work in his shirt sleeves without roasting is a fine day!  Look at that fine, blue sky!

Over the mountain over the sea
Back where my heart is longing to be
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love

I see the moon the moon sees me
Down through the leaves of the old oak tree
Please let the light that shines on me
Shine on the one I love

Here's a fine shot of the moon I took at 3 p.m. today.

Closer.....

Closer still.....this shot looks kinda creepy to me.....like someone's brain!  Does anyone see that besides me?

Mark's shelter for his sawmill is shaping up just fine!  We are going to look at roofing panels today.

Mr. House Finch is a fine looking finch!

Mark and I went together today for eye exams.  I hadn't been for 4 years.  I only had to pay $30 for the exam through Medicare due to having a "medical classification" associated with my file for the narrow angle glaucoma and cataracts, I guess.  That's fine by me!  The glasses and lens were another story.....NOT $30!

Yesterday, we three fine musketeers spent the day together.  I picked up Carolyn on the way to Ilene's and from there we went to lunch at Randy's.  We had a fine meal!  When we came back we spent the rest of the day at Ilene's playing Farkle and Rummikub.  Mark was going to work on the shed and then burn some trash at the pits and would not be back to the house til after dark, so Carolyn and I left at 6:30 for home.  I sure love these ladies!  Thank You, Lord, for sending these women into my life.  They are wonderful, fine Christian women, mentors, and friends! 💖

Tis So Sweet

I did a thing tonight.  I ordered a subscription for the water flavoring that Mark uses in his tea and in his water.  With his diabetes type 2, I started using it because it is sweetened with Stevia instead of aspartame or some of the other artificial sweeteners that still causes his sugar to spike.  I used to get it at Food Lion but they stopped carrying it.  I got it at Walmart but they don't carry the flavors that Mark likes.  So, I went searching online.  I was trying to find it with free shipping, but it was going to be expensive.  With ordering a subscription (automatic shipment every 30 days) I got free shipping with two 30-day subscriptions and I am paying less per container than what I was paying at Food Lion!  If you are interested in trying it out, the company gave me a referral link for you to use.  Just click on the image below to check it out!

In other news.....

I had planned to take Ilene and Carolyn to the widow's meeting in Statesville today, but I had to cancel because I woke up with a bad headache and ended up being in bed til noon.  My hips were hurting from lying in bed so long so I made myself get up.  But I needed to take some more tylenol anyway.

So, I spent the rest of the day in my recliner taking tylenol every 4 hours.  It is almost midnight and I'm not feeling the least bit sleepy!

I pray tomorrow is a better day because I have got to get groceries, no ifs, ands, or buts about it!

Blessings to all!

Walking on Liquid Sunshine

Journaling reads: The temperature reached the 50’s today! When I walked outside to go to the mailbox, I found puddles of water instead of ice and one of the neighbor’s hens looking for goodies in our yard. 2-3-22

We went to Ryan's last basketball game of the season tonight.  We stopped at Arby's in Salisbury on the way to Rockwell Christian where it was a home game.

They played hard tonight, but the baskets just did not want to catch their basketballs for some reason!

We picked up Waboose on the way back and she is going to spend a couple of nights with us before heading south.

It has rained most of the day today!  Someone said we are supposed to get more snow on Sunday!  I hope not!  I'm ready for spring!

Have a great weekend!
