Excerpt: The Pursuit of God, The Human Thirst for the Divine, A.W. Tozer

O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, The Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wondered so long. In Jesus' name. Amen

Well, I decided to do a paper scrapbook page today for the lady who hand stitched a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt for Tim and I. I remember now why I LOVE digital scrapbooking so much.....NO MESS!!!!! My mess is still laying on the dining room table! I worked ALL afternoon on this page! I told Tim I couldn't believe I used to sit for hours and hours on ONE page! Digital scrapbooking is sooooooo much faster! Just click on your element and drop it in place! No cutting and punching and sticking! Praise the Lord for technology and the world of digital!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes the bargains that you find turn out to be not such good bargains! This pair of shoes is just such a case! I got them at my favorite thrift store for $3 or $4 (I'd have to check my previous post to know for sure). They still had the original store price tag on them, too! Who woulda' thot that they would tear up after the first 2 times of wearing them? I was going to just doctor the split with black shoe polish, but I noticed that the other shoe is splitting out in different places, too. Both of the shoes splitting out in the top area. What gives?? Obviously, not the shoes, lol! Anyway, I'm aggravated today about this, but I guess I'll get over it!

Something for the Fun of it!

I got this in an e-mail today. Get your calculators out and try this for fun! I don't know who has time to sit around and think of these, but here you go:

Chocolate Calculator:

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH
This is pretty neat

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read .
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1759 ..
If you haven't, add 1758.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2009) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

We have had thunderstorm watches and warnings in the area all day. While I was in Walmart, it sounded like you were outside instead of inside, that is how hard it was raining! So, I just tarried a bit til it eased up! But, that was not the end of the rain! Right after dinner tonight, these clouds started rolling across the sky. I am not afraid of storms particularly. The only time I get a bit of a twinge in my gut is when the sky looks ominous and the threat of tornadoes is evident! But, even at that, the twinge is not nearly the way it used to be back in the 70's after our house was destroyed by a tornado in KY in 1974. I didn't like Spring to roll around on the calendar because of the severe weather that is usually possible with the changing temperatures. So, I thought of the song, "Til the Storm Passes By" today. It is amazing how calm you can be in a storm when you know you are in the palm of God's hand and you realize that nothing is going to happen to you that He has not already approved because He knows what you can handle! And that thought made me think of another song, Trusting Jesus (artist unknown). Here is the first verse and the chorus:

Verse 1:
Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Chorus:
Trusting as the moments fly,
Trusting as the days go by;
Trusting Him whate’er befall,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

Today is DH's day off from church work, as is every Thursday. We try to get away and do some exploring, but it doesn't always happen, lol! We checked the internet for some things to do in Charlotte, NC but nothing suited our fancy. I sent an e-mail to some ladies from our church and they told us of the same places we had found on the internet. So we thought we would just drive there and do some shopping somewhere. Knowing DH's love for books, I thot he would enjoy hitting some of the used bookstores, so I found the names and addresses of several and we headed out. We were backing out of the car port when he said, "You know what I really would like to do is find a pair of shoes at a thrift store today." So I said, "Well, it will only take a few minutes to look them up on the internet, especially since we are actually leaving a few minutes before the scheduled departure time." So, we went back into the house and found a list of about 10 thrift stores and headed out on our journey. We had a good time and the trip was a success as DH found a pair of shoes! AND.....I found 2 pairs of shoes, a computer bag and a lampshade for less money than he paid for his shoes! TADA! A successful trip for both of us! Plus, he bought my lunch! Now, how much better can it get than that! And, we are just doing left overs for supper, so I feel like it has been a day off for me, too!

DH starts a new SS series this week, so he wanted me to change his bulletin board in his classroom. His lessons are a week off for some reason since there is another Sunday in May. So, don't know what happened there. Anyway, this is just the beginning of bulletin board changes. Next week I'll be changing the other monthly bulletin board. It will be a cool bulletin board! So, stay tuned!

One of the ladies from our church is a quilter. She has probably hand stitched over 1,000 quilts in her life time. Sad to say that the one she made for us will probably be her last one. She has parkinson's disease and it is getting worse. She is in her late 80's and is currently in a nursing home facility. We fear she will probably not be able to come home again. She is taking physical therapy to strengthen her legs, but it really is not doing much. They will not let her go home unless she shows that she can walk and get around to take care of herself.

One thing about shopping for groceries at Aldi, you can find some pretty good things to try without it costing you an arm and a leg! These muffins are just such an item. The muffin mix is $1.69 and the frosting is $1.09. So, when you divide $2.78 by 12 muffins, you can have a decent snack for $0.23 each! Even if you decide to splurge (which I do quite frequently, lol!) and have two, that's only $0.46! What would it cost you to buy a piece of cake at the restaurant? Almost $2.00?! Probably! And, these are very good! Chocolate cake with chocolate chips and cream cheese icing! YUM! Are you hungry yet? :)

To Address a couple of recent Comments.......

Karabeth, Euchre is a card game. The object of the game is to try to obtain at least 3 tricks per round of play (winning 3 hands out of 5) which gives you 1 point. You earn 2 points if you get 5 tricks (winning 5 hands out of 5). It is played with 2 teams of 2 players for each team. The winning team will be the team to reach 10 points first. An excellent explanation of this game is found HERE.

Elisabeth, I usually refrain from using the word "awesome" very much unless I am referring to God who is the only One who deserves this title. But, I was keeping in sync with the Awe-summ Award that I received! Now that I think about it, I should have used the same spelling as shown above in my "7 Reasons Why...." description. I think I will go back and change that while I am thinking of it!

YIKES! I forgot to post this here last night! I got it posted at Digitals and who knows where I went after that! I didn't go to bed til 1:20 a.m., I know that! Got sidetracked along the way, which is the story of my life it seems anymore! LOL!

Anyway, this post was supposed to be a THANKS to Michael and Jessica for their wonderful hospitality while we were at their house Thursday, Friday and half of Saturday. We always have a wonderful time with them! And, our little Kara is growing much too fast! She will be 3 in just a little over a month! We love you all and can't wait to see you again!

WHEW! Today was a busy day and passed rather quickly! Started off with swimming lessons for Kara. She is doing so well, too! There will be pages posted later for this. By the time we got home it was time for lunch. Then it was time for Kara to take her nap. During that time, we watched a movie and played Euchre. After Kara woke up, she and I played and read books and played in her play room. Before long it was time for supper. Michael and Jessica treated us out for a meal at Olive Garden! YUM! Love their salad and bread sticks! After dinner we went to a nature preserve where Kara, Michael and Tim did some fishing, but didn't catch anything but a bunch of swamp scum and lily pads! By the time we got home it was time to give Kara a bath and get ready for bed. After I finished reading her books to her for bed time, the rest of us played more Euchre.

But, before any of the above took place, we decided to get a picture of all of us girls!

Well, Monica must have had a good night's sleep, because she was very cooperative today, LOL! However, she took us through Washington, DC more than we wanted to go and the traffic was bad! But we survived and stopped for lunch at Friendly's before heading to Michael's about 10 minutes further up the road! We had less trouble going directly to their house than we have ever had before, that is for sure! Maybe it had something to do with the time of our arrival, too! As we usually drive straight through and land around 3 a.m.! But, we will give Monica the credit this time!

AWE-SUMMM AWARD!

I'm almost late for church, but I just discovered an Awe-Summm Award I had been given by Karabeth of "On a High Hill" blogspot. Click on her name to check out her blog! Leave her some love! I'll be back later to tell you more about it! For now, just admire the award!

In accordance with the rules of the award, I must post 7 things that are awe-summm about myself and pick 7 people whose blogs I find awe-summm. So here goes...

Seven things that are awesome about me:

  1. I am a child of the King. That is the most awesome thing about me and it also means that I'm not awesome after all. The God I serve is AWEsome, though, and because of the price He paid and the grace He has shown me I can be His child. Any crowns that come my way will be cast at His feet because I'm covered in His AWEsomeness. (Yes, I copied this from Karabeth as I could NOT have said it any better!) I will just add that it is just such an awesome thing to be a child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
  2. I am a pastor's wife and just LOVE it! I feel so privileged and at the same time don't understand how it could be that God would choose a sinner like me to fulfill the role of being the help meet to one of His called preacher-servants!
  3. I'm the mother of two wonderful girls and two fantastic boys, and the grandmother of two wonderful little girls and two fantastic little boys (and am patiently waiting on more to be added as the Lord sees fit!).
  4. I am the (awe-summm) mother-in-law of two wonderful girls and two fantastic guys and am so thankful the Lord brought them into the lives of my children!
  5. I love the technology of the internet that brought me and digital scrapbooking together! It is another avenue for me to share my faith and be an encouragement to others. I think that is very awe-summm!
  6. I don't consider myself to be an awe-summm blogger, but working the Project 365 has helped tremendously! And, blogging is sure addicting!
  7. God gave me an awe-summm gift of being creative and artistic to a degree. Now, if I could just find more hours in the day to work up all of this creativity!

Seven people who I think are awesome bloggers:
1. Patti Senter aka NW Lady for her awe-summm project 365 pictures at her blog "Reflections of My Year".
2. Karen at "Candid Diversions."
3. Alisha at "Stinkerpot Scraps."

I'll have to get back to you on this one! I'll probably work on this once I am back at home.
I'm still working on this award!

Thanks, once again, Karabeth, for the recognition! You are too kind!

I'm going to start this post, but I won't have a layout done til tomorrow. We are traveling to MD tonight after church, so I will be working on my layout during the trip. We will not make the entire trip tonight, but will cross over into Virginia and spend the night there off of I-85.

Well, the GPS we bought ESPECIALLY to use on our trip to MD freaked out on us not more than 1/2 hour into our trip. It was doing fine one minute, then all of a sudden Monica started Recalculating and Recalculating and Recalculating. Our car looked like it was spinning around on the screen! We weren't, mind you! So, Tim turned it off and plugged it into the charger, even tho that definitely should not have been the problem. Fortunately, the first leg of our trip was the easy part! Hopefully tomorrow Monica will be more cooperative!

OK, here is my layout. Kit used is by Glenda Ketcham, Country Charm (Kit 2). Click on the layout to be taken to the kit in the store at Digitals.

Scrap Outside the Box

Here are a couple of cute layouts of my grandson and granddaughter. In the first layout, they are getting ready to go camping for the weekend and they saw a toad in their driveway as they were loading up to leave. And, you know that no kid can resist a frog when they see one!

In the second layout, they have arrived at the camp site and have started exploring! And, guess what Ryan found! A very green bug! Gross!!

Kit: Franky Frog & Co by Cindy Ritter is currently a daily download at Scrap Outside the Box. Click on either of the layouts to go to the blog where the downloads are posted.

May 18, 2009

Well, Tim and I traveled to a Pastor's fellowship in Virginia today and didn't get back in time for me to get this posted before midnight! Actually, that is when we got home! It was a long day! I love going to hear the wonderful preaching and meeting the other pastors' wives, but it sure makes for a long day! And the longer the day, the sorer my tail bone gets! But, it is worth it! We receive great blessings from being there, so it is worth it!

I'm really surprised that Tim has not purchased a GPS before now, but he finally broke today! Of course, I was hoping the idea would hold off until after Father's Day because I think the kids were thinking of chipping in and buying him one for Father's Day. But, he had his mind made up. He said to tell the kids to just give him Amazon.com $$ because that is what he really likes! And, we have been doing lots of traveling to different churches lately, so the GPS came in handy when we drove back from Virginia and it will come in handy when we drive to Maryland to see our son this weekend.

Hope everyone is having a wonderfully relaxing Sunday! I am, for sure! Our weather today is drizzly rain off and on. And, actually when I went out to check out how my flowers were doing, I was surprised to feel how cool it was! You can see the rain drops on the azaleas. The other azalea is not blooming yet, nor is the tiger lily. The tiger lily is close! I love the color of the tiger lily! Can't wait to show them off!

I did some more bargain shopping today at the thrift store I like to drop by at least once a week! They have a different colored tag at 50% off each week. I usually only look for that color of tag when I go in. But, today my mission was to look for a pair of shoes that would be more comfortable to wear on our visitation trips. And I wanted them to go with pants. And I found the perfect pair! Brand new! Still had the store tags on them! $4! SOLD! And, since I was in the market for another pair of black sandals, I got the other pair shown, for good measure and because they, too, were brand new, even tho they didn't have the store tags to prove it! I could tell from the sole that they had never been worn! I was actually looking for a dressier pair to wear to church, but at $3! SOLD! OK, so I now have 2 brand new pairs of shoes that only cost me $7! I hope when I wear them that I still agree that they were a bargain!

WOW! This page oughta' send you spinning! LOL! That paper and those drop shadows really make this page look "far out!" DH and I went into Office Depot to get some things he needed and while we were in there I decided to look at their EHD's since I was going to be in the market for one very soon to spend some extra money I made working with my daughter and my mother's day money. Well, I couldn't believe this EHD was only $100! And the sale ends tomorrow! I'd say it was meant to be just for me! So, I bought it! I haven't opened the box yet because I wanted to do some research to make sure this was going to be a reliable product. Well, I couldn't find anything on this product, but I found the following statement about Verbatim products: "For the past few years, Verbatim has been one of the well-known names in the industry of data storage. Their fame is due to their quality and remarkable designs." Sounds like a winner to me! So, tomorrow I will open the box!

I used my new kit, "Flower Power, found at my "Today's Scrap" blog as a free download. Click on the layout and you will be directed to the download links.

Well, my last kit for the designer challenges at Brownie Scraps is done! We had two weeks to work on it. Last week I was helping my daughter with a cheerleading yearbook project. I finished my part of the project the first of this week. Then I started working on my kit. We were given some pictures to look at for inspiration in creating a kit. There was a picture of a white leather couch with lots of pillows that had a retro design on them. My immediate thought for the name of a kit was "Retromania." However, after googling and looking at color schemes and design ideas, my kit is still retro, but is named "Flower Power." A preview of the kit is at my Today's Scrap blog where you will find a download link. The kit is free! It turned out really cute, if I do say so myself! It is a fun and funky kit with lots of flowers and bright patterns in the papers.

And, even though it is basically a bright and fun kit, I was able to use if for this calm layout for today. This is a picture of the field next to the house. Filled with these beautiful purple flowers! You can click on the layout and you will be directed to the download links for the kit, too! ENJOY!

I am FINALLY caught up with my Postings!

Sorry for the delay! But, I am finally caught up through today! This has been a wild month already! And I have also been helping my daughter work on a cheerleading yearbook! But, that project is finished! Now, I have to start working on my last Brownie Scraps challenge kit which is due this Sunday! I'm just thankful I had 2 weeks to work on it! So, I may get behind on my posts here for a few days til I get my kit finished! Thanks to those of you who have been faithfully stopping by and wondering when I would be back! Hopefully, I won't be gone so long any more!

Hugs!

And, btw! If you haven't stopped by my "Today's Scrap" designing blog for my latest collaborative kit with Debbie Allee, "How Does Your Garden Grow?" head on over there to download it! It's F R E E! And, my dad used to say, "If it's F R E E, it's for me!" Sometimes there is a catch to it if it is F R E E! But, there's no catch to this one! You will LOVE the elements!

Well, my last "planting" is yielding beautiful blooms! Mom always had tons of beautiful lilies of all types! So far, I only have a few! But, the blooms are beautiful! And the buds show the promise of more!

This is a Garden Path Quick Page by Christine Smith at Digitals. Click on the layout to go to the QPs for purchase. There are 4 quick pages in this set and she made them using her "Garden Path" kit. I love using quick pages because all you have to do is drop a picture in, add a little journaling and you are done! Except on this page I took a little more time to make the lily and the buds and a leaf look like they are popping out of the frame!

Happy Mother's Day to me and all of you who are mothers. I hope you were able to spend time with your children today!

Last year, on Mother's Day, the girls organized a surprise get-together for me. It was very special and meant alot to me to have my children all together and with me on that special day of the year. As it turned out, DH had just resigned from the pastorate of the Buffalo Baptist Church the week before, so it would be the last Mother's Day we would celebrate together in West Virginia. This year, in North Carolina, no children were able to be with me. But each of them contacted me by sending cards, gifts or making a phone call, or both!

Life is just that way sometimes, isn't it? When the kids are grown and living their lives in different parts of the country, you just can't always get together when you want to. Especially being in the Lord's work, which is the priority of a pastor. And even more so when it is his bread and butter! But, you know what? I wouldn't trade occupations for anything! I love being a pastor's wife (a stay-at-home pastor's wife, especially!). Every day is different! Every day there is a blessing to be found!

I'll bet after you read my journaling in this layout that you are thinking, "this lady sure spends alot of time at the grocery store!" And, sometimes I really feel like that, too! But, I just had to pick up a few things that we ran out of over the last couple of days. No major grocery shopping! I try to keep a running list on my fridge, but sometimes you just miss stuff!

And speaking of missing stuff, have you ever had to do a U-turn in the road because you missed your turn? North Carolina has got this thing for U-turns! And, I don't mean against them! They are for them, LOL! Every main street is set up so that you can make a U-turn! And then I came across this sign (shown in my layout) and I started thinking about the direction life takes you sometimes. Sometimes the road is straight and you can travel easily to your destination. Other times there is the need for a U-turn. And then there are times when you are just not sure which way you should go! I started thinking it's too bad there isn't a Map Quest or Google for directions in your life, but there is! It is called the Bible! And we can always ask for directions from God! Most times we forget to ask. That's when we usually have to make a U-turn!

Happy Anniversary, to me! I'm more in love with my high school sweetheart today, than I was in high school, no question! Good thing I married him, huh! :) And, he isn't always straight-laced and dry-witted (if you know him, you know what I mean!), as you can see from the picture on the left of my layout! I had to smack him to get him to straighten up and fly right so I could get a good picture of the two of us! Just kidding! But, I did take at least 3 pictures before I got one that was kind of what I was trying to get! Anyway, I guess I'll keep him!

Well, I usually don't buy seeds in seed packets, but I did this year! These little sprouts started out as seeds in a Perennial Mix seed packet that I got at Dollar Tree for $0.25. I can't wait to see what they end up being! I'm surprised, too, that I bought the seed packets (I actually bought 2 of the same) because I like quick and/or immediate results when I plant flowers! That's why I usually buy almost-ready-to-bloom plants! But, I'll keep you posted! I may need your help in determining what is growing in my garden after they finally get grown!

Guess you can figure out what I did today, huh! Grocery shopping! Don't particularly like to get groceries, but it is one of those inevitable chores! You gotta eat to live, right?! Wish I could take that literally instead of the one I usually adopt.......living to eat! Anyway, that's another story!

And, don't you just love the cute stuff in this page! This is currently a daily download at Digitals and is FREE! Yes! That's right! If I had just kept up with my postings here, you could have been collecting it since last week! Sorry about that! But, go over and get what you can! Click on the layout to go to the free download! I've been doing some cleaning (for a change) around the house since we have missionaries from WV coming to stay with us on Wednesday. And there is nothing better than the smell of lavender and vanilla! I don't know who comes up with the fragrances for cleaners and fabric softeners, but this is one of my absolute, all time favorites! Lavender and Vanilla! Smells soooo good! Not good enough to make me WANT to clean, however! Just makes the chore more enjoyable when you gotta do it! :) And, btw, in case you are wondering from the journaling in my layout.....no, I don't mix my Mr. Clean and Downy!

This kit, Simply Spring, is by Glenda Ketcham and can be found at Digitals by clicking on my layout. Once again, my font of choice for May is AS Black Swan.

Well, I'm very proud of myself! Usually when I buy flowers to plant, they sit around the house for about a week before I finally get them planted! Not so this time! It only took me 2 days! I decided I would only buy perennials this year (sorry for the misspelling in my title on my page! I'll have to fix it before it "goes to press!"), except for the annuals I bought to plant in my little planters that are sitting on the porch. Anyway, I'll be sure and post a page later on when they are all beautifully in bloom!

This is my latest Brownie Scraps designer challenge kit. We were given a partner (Debbie Allee was my partner) for this challenge and the two of us had to collaborate and come up with a kit. We came up with "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Lots of neat papers and original elements! All elements were photographed and extracted to give you unique elements! And you can download it for free at my Today's Scrap blog. Just click on the layout to be directed to the links.

Have you ever heard of the Topsy-Turvy vegetable grower? Well, I had not, until Tim's mom mentioned it to him. When we came back from our trip to WV yesterday, we found this hanger on our porch where she had mailed us one. I wanted some more soil and flowers to plant, so Tim went with me and he picked up a tomato plant, too! I'll let you know how it does in a month or two!

Our Visitation Ministry began today. LOL! I just noticed in looking at this page that all of the men, except DH, look like werewolves because I fuzzied their faces out with a special "brush" in my PSE program! I did that because I did not have permission to post their faces on the WWW! Anyway, you will have to trust me when I say that they are all just regular men, not werewolves!

I don't know what I would do without my laptop for traveling! Especially since DH doesn't allow me to drive unless he is so dog tired he can hardly keep his eyes open! Then, reluctantly, he will allow me to drive! Suits me just fine, cuz that means I can play! And, any of you that know him also know he isn't a big talker! So, he listens to talk radio or a Christian station or pops an Oldies CD in and he will switch back and forth between the three. Me, I listen to whatever he is listening to while I play on the laptop doing my scrapbooking. And, sometimes I allow myself a quick nap!

I am working with tons of designers this month, so you have lots of beautiful kits to view as you check out my layouts! Enjoy them all! They are all beauties!

This kit is called, Raspberry Scented Memories by Cindy Ritter. Click on the layout and you will be directed to the kit in her store at Digitals. The font of choice for me right now is AS Black Swan. I wish my own handwriting was as pretty!
