Excerpt: The Pursuit of God, The Human Thirst for the Divine, A.W. Tozer

O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, The Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wondered so long. In Jesus' name. Amen

July 31, 2009

Well, I thought I would do a bit of bragging today, LOL! I'm not one to boast very much, so it humbles me to even consider doing this, LOL!

OK, anyway! Here are some statistics for you:
Even though I have been sick most of the week, I managed to pull it off!
I got all 31 Project 365 pages done for July
I got all of the weekly summaries of my Project 365 done for July
I did 21 of the 22 challenges at Digitals. (The one I don't do is the one you have to make a purchase to do)

Now, I do earn bragging rights here, because some of the girls who are doing the Project 365 challenge are double-dipping with their layouts and counting them as challenge layouts, too! Which is fine, because they are allowed to do that! However, I have tried to keep from doing that because I want my Project to be as pure as possible, LOL!

That makes a total of 1,473 layouts posted at Digitals since my first post on October 22, 2005!
And, 89 more posts will bring my total posts/comments, etc up to 9,000!
Here is a link to my gallery if you want to check some of the layouts for the challenges out (since the ones for my Project 365 you have already seen!)
http://digitalscrapbookpages.com/galleria/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/1054

And, speaking of challenges, here's the first layout I posted waaaaay back in 2005 (using Scrapbook Deluxe, btw, Steph!) Did you ever get Photoshop Elements, btw? Or was that Alisha that I'm thinking about?

OK, another note for those of you who have been praying for my health! The "D" word has plagued me today! I have eaten a bowl of cereal all day! Because I'm afraid to eat anything for fear the "D" will turn into a "V!" Do ya know what I mean, Vern!?! So, do some more praying! I guess since I still see the humor in this, it is a plus, right?!

Anyway, here are the credits for this page:

Well, let me just say thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all who have been praying for me to get better! I'm not 100% yet, but I feel TONS better this evening! I'm coughing up stuff and blowing my nose quite frequently! The headache is (for now) about gone! YEAH! I am fighting the urge to drink a diet coke! But, my throat is still sore enough that I don't think I'll chance it! Hopefully, by the time this sickness is over with, my addiction to diet coke will be, too! I don't need it and I sure don't need to spend the extra money on it!

Anyway, since I have been feeling so bad this week, I decided to do a page on my dear and close friends this week, the only items that dared to kiss me, LOL! But, I don't blame DH for not wanting to catch whatever it is that I have! Plus, I haven't exactly felt all lovey-dovey either! :)

Keep those prayers and petitions going heavenward! Love you all!

Well, I decided to share some of my Digitals Challenge layouts with you today, too, along with my Project 365 page, which I will add to the bottom. I am especially proud of this first one. Hey, Liz! Do you remember the swing that went out over the pond at the park?! No! Funny! Neither do I, LOL! I sure had fun making it. I took the forest background and blended in the pond picture with the fountain. Then I added the ducks from another picture. Then I added the picture of Liz swinging at Jessica's house! Also added the butterfly, the rope and tag hanging from the tree and the tent. And, Voila! Too cute, don't you think?!

I'll discuss today's 365 page down below these layouts.

OK, for today's page.....
I am sick today so I really don't feel up to par in giving you a long dissertation of the layout. So, I'll just let you read the journaling on the page. Hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow.

Before I get to today's page, I wanted to share a cute poem I received via an e-mail. I think most of you will be able to relate! :)

Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been "computering,"
And I had to answer, "yes!"

He told me to get off my fanny
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick!
I was just admiring my work,
I didn't mean to click!

But click, I did, and OOPS! I found
A real absorbing site,
That I got SO way into it
I was into it all night!

Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny!
I guess my house will stay a mess
While I sit here on my hiney.

OK, be honest. Does that poem fit you?!! It sure fit my hiney! :)

Now for today's page. Believe it or not, I have still been doing VBS "stuff" off and on! But, today we FINALLY got the last of the TO DO list done! At least, I think so! I did some birthday shopping today for 2 of my FAVORITE granddaughters and got candy and school supplies to completely fill the prize containers for VBS while I was shopping! Last night I created 2 sets for each day of some cute little tickets that we will hand out to the kids and throw the other set in a basket and draw a number out! No rounding up kids' guesses of how many items are in the container from all of the teachers and then determining whose number was the closest. This will be quicker and simpler (more simple?? whatever!). We made a different color for each day. I'm anxious to get this show on the road! Mainly because it means all of my grandkids will be here! YEAH! But, I do enjoy VBS every year! Even though it absolutely wears me out!

I used my own items for creating this page. I'm working on a new kit (might be done by Christmas, LOL!) and it is full of primary colors! And, I'm leaning towards the main focus being on school kids! What do you think?!

Thanks for dropping by today!

One of the members of our church gave us some eggplant today. I had no idea what to do with them but I found this recipe on the internet. Turned out pretty good! I added the Italian sausage to "beef" it up a bit for DH. I liked it just the way it was and gave my sausage pieces to Tim. But, the Eggplant Parmesan was no match for the Turtle Pie that we had for dessert! Yes, that is 1/4 of a pie you are looking at! And it was good to the last drop! :)

I mentioned in yesterday's blog about the UDF ice cream we always get while we are in the Cincinnati area and I was thinking I had also mentioned our love of Skyline Chili that we usually try to make a stop at while in the Cincinnati area, too. But, I hadn't mentioned it. It was just on my mind, I guess, LOL! Anyway, thinking about it, I decided I needed to fix some for lunch today! It has to "cook down" so I fixed it this morning so it could cook on low during church. All I had to do was fix the spaghetti, cut up the onions and fix some garlic bread after church! YUM!! When we moved to Buffalo, WV, we started buying the packets of Cincinnati Chili mix. Now that we have moved to NC, we cannot get the mix. So, we make sure we pick up the mix when we visit our daughter in WV, or if she is coming, have her bring some with her!

Speaking of which, Liz, if you get a chance, could you bring another 10 packets with you next week.....PRETTY PLEASE!!!!!! :)

Oh, btw, NO, I would NOT eat your nuts now, Liz! We were poor and didn't want to "waste" them! :) Not that we are rolling in the dough now, but I don't need the extra calories! :)

And, Michael, the ice cream we ALWAYS shared with you kids! It was the hoagies we didn't share! :) Tell me there aren't some things that you don't share with Kara and maybe even wait til she goes to bed to indulge! Hey! It is the parenting privilege! We were being merciful by not eating in front of you! :)

Love, MOM!

I remembered today, as I emptied the box of ice cream, when our 4 kids were still home, we would go through a box of ice cream in one sitting! I would open the box, and with a big butcher knife, slice the ice cream into 6 pieces. UDF's Fudge Nut Sundae was the ice cream of choice. I think Elisabeth and Jessica always sucked the ice cream off of the nuts and then gave them to dad and me, LOL! We haven't lived in a state that has UDF since 1997. So, usually when we visit our daughter in Ohio or Tim's mom and dad or my brother in Kentucky, we make a stop at UDF for a milk shake or cone.

My DH is very organized! His motto, "A place for everything and everything in it's place".......at all times, I might add! Well, you know what they say, opposites DO attract! So, as you guessed it, I am just the opposite! When I drag tons of stuff out to work on a project, whatever it might be, it stays in piles until I finish whatever it is that I am working on! The pile you see in today's page is stuff I am looking at to get ideas for the kit I am working on! Also, since we have VBS starting in a little over a week, that is in the pile, too! What can I say, I am very good at multi-tasking! After all, I raised 4 kids! :)

Today's page is featuring a mini kit from Krazie World of Mary Digiscrap Designs blog. The link will direct you to her blog and the challenge she is holding and the beautiful mini kit that you see here (well, you see 18 of the 25 pieces in the mini kit she is giving away for the challenge). The challenge is to use at least 60% of the kit in a layout. (That is 15 pieces for those of you who might be mathematically challenged, LOL!) The prize is her new kit, Pinky Polkadot. On August 1st, Mr. Random will select 2 winners! Hey, your chances are as good as mine! Go on over to her blog now and get the kit and play along! Be sure and leave her a big thank you for the free kit! As you can see, it is a beauty!

But for the love of chocolate, I could be skinny! But, I guess my girlish figure is just going to have to wait! Tim and I got used to getting dessert with our meals while at the Bible Conference earlier this week, which is not a good thing! I looked in my cabinets this evening for something, anything sweet to make, which I figured would come up empty. Since we have been trying to watch what we eat, I don't buy too many sweets because we just do not have any will power to stay out of it! Well, our resolve has been tossed out the window for a couple of weeks now! Basically this whole month, in fact! I think the slippery slope started with our 4th of July weekend away! But, the Triple Chunk Brownies with Heavenly Hash ice cream topped with caramel syrup was sooooooo worth the extra calories! What do you think? :)

We left the Bible conference early because we needed to get back to hold the services in our own church tonight. I was glad that I got some challenge pages done while I was away this week. And, traveling always gives me a chance to get caught up on my pages, too! However, then when I get back I've got all of those layouts to upload and credits listed! That is the part I don't like, playing catch up! It takes forever to list all of the credits! Plus, since I am on the Digitals Team CT, I have requirements to fulfill in posting the layouts to several galleries! That will have to wait until tomorrow! Below is a print screen of some of the posts I made tonight.

Well, I was figuring on missing my daily downloads from my favorite digi scrapbooking sites while we were attending the Bible conference this week. But, DH decided that he wanted to go to the next town during the afternoon break and find some place that had wifi! Good ole' McDonalds was the place to be! However, since we were going to have to pay $2.95 for the connection, and I figured I might as well get my downloads, too, we decided to check the e-mail for DH and get the downloads on my computer and only pay the $2.95 once. Well, while I was getting the downloads, DH was able to receive reception on his iPod, so he checked his e-mail from his phone. While there, I decided to do some uploading of my 365 page to Digitals and my blog. So the page for today is of our trip to McDonalds. You can see the mountains in the background. Beautiful country, for sure!

Just a quick note to let you see a couple of pictures taken while at the "cabin" we are staying in while at the Bible Conference in WV. I'll show more pictures later. We came to Hinton, WV and are sitting in a McD's for their Wifi usage.

The preaching thus far has been excellent! Looking forward to more later today.

July 19, 2009

It was a beautiful day today! I felt like spending some time outside taking pictures, but by the time I thought about it, it was getting close to time for us to have our first VBS meeting. So, I just walked around the church yard to "see what I could see" that might spark some interest. About the only thing that caught my attention was this one tree beside the fellowship hall that was covered with vines. And, I think the vines were as old as the tree from the looks of them! This tree is actually some sort of evergreen tree, but the vines have about taken over and you can really see the vine leaves more than the tree itself! It looked like the air was being cut off from the tree by all of the vines. It kind of reminded me of how the world would like to choke out the Christians when they really ought to be thankful for us because as long as we are here, God is holding out His wrath that He will pour out on them in the last days.

Anyway, I took a few other pictures, but this was the only one that really had any interest to it, LOL! Not much going on today! And, that's not such a bad thing! After all, it is a day of rest!

This page is made using more of the elements from the kit I am working on. Font is Arial Rounded MT.

Hope you had a great Saturday! I did! Busy, but a beautiful day! Low humidity helped the 88 degree temperature not seem so bad at all! Story of my life lately, I worked on VBS "stuff." Today's accomplishment: I finished painting a bean bag toss game, shown in the layout below. I also arranged the fellowship hall in a possible set up for the VBS happenings. In order to do that, I had to fold up most of the tables and set them to the side. Then I re-arranged the buffet tables and added a couple more for taking care of snack time and craft time. Then I arranged the folding chairs into 5 rows of 7 chairs each. I arranged then so there is an aisle down the middle and along both sides. The rooms are assigned and tags on the doors. We are getting ready! My props are just lined up along the walls for now. I still have a refrigerator box that I would like to do something with. Maybe someone will give me some ideas at the meeting!

Well, the page I created today serves two purposes. Besides being today's page for my 365 project, I am introducing you to a new kit I am working on. So, the elements and papers you see here are part of the kit. I am thinking I am going to call the kit, "Basically Primary" or "Primarily Primary" or something like that since I am using the primary colors (and actually secondary colors, too, now that I think about it!) and a few others thrown into the mix.

Anyway, I kinda need help with the name, so if you think of something catchy, leave me a comment!

Well, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I have one painting project that will need to be finished tomorrow and then I will start working on decorations for my class room. I would like to make some snowflakes for the ceilings, but if I don't get it done, no biggie! The paintings have all turned out pretty well, don't you think? I had a time with the moose! I painted it, highlighted it, highlighted it again, and then ended up painting over the highlighting because there was too much contrast and it didn't look natural, not that it does now, but it looks a whole lot better than it did! My favorite thing I have painted is the wall mural. But from the group shown, my favorite is the penguin family! Too cute!

I had some VBS project pictures taken, but I decided to give it a rest! Instead, since I know you are all just soooo interested in this (LOL!), I decided to give you a "taste" of my usual lunch. You will like my calorie trade-0ffs I'm gonna tell you about! You see, the lunch meat is very low in fat and calories, as is the bread. The portion of my snack is not bad, calorie-wise, either. However, the muffin is my bonus (trade-off) for being good with the sandwich and the snack! These muffins turned out sooo good, too! I took an Aldi's blueberry muffin mix and added more blueberries and also added some strawberries! Can I just tell you that they are just too good! I was concerned how the strawberries would do, but they added a very moist and tasty touch! YUMMY! Hope you enjoyed my lunch as much as I did! :)

Another VBS project basically finished, WOOHOO! I may put some shadows in later on to give it more depth, but it depends on how much time I have before VBS actually starts in less than 3 weeks! YIKES!!! I started a cute penguin family today but didn't get quite finished. Next I am going to tackle a moose!

July 14, 2009

Another day of working on VBS crafts. I had to go shopping first to get supplies. Dollar Tree was just opening their doors when I arrived! Then I got to the register with my $30 + purchase and the clerk tells me they are not taking the debit cards, so I had to leave and get cash and come back! Who carries cash anymore?! I sure don't! Anyway, after Dollar Tree, I headed to A.C. Moore, which was basically a waste of time. I hate paying those prices after shopping at Dollar Tree! I was looking for google eyes, foam door knob hangers and foam letters with sticky backs. I left there with google eyes and some ribbon. Next (and last) stop........WALMART! If you can't find it at Walmart, you don't need it, LOL! Well, I found a few items (I can't remember what, lol) but the biggest purchase was 20 pairs of kids scissors that were on sale for $0.75 each! Since our church hasn't had VBS in 35 years, I have stocked up on some supplies. I got 18 pks of the chunky crayons and 20 glue sticks at Dollar Tree. I had a box of pencils that I donated. So, that is a start, anyway. I know what I looked for today that I could not find anywhere was brown construction paper! Every color under the rainbow....EXCEPT brown! So, I am going to have to figure out a different craft for that day. Plus, now I will probably take the google eyes back to AC Moore since they went with the construction paper project!

Anyway, after I got home I worked on cutting out projects with my paper scrapbooking equipment. I am sure glad I kept my equipment because I have really used them for the VBS stuff this year! (Hey, Stephanie J. Did I per chance give you any brown paper? LOL!)

We have been getting a few tomatoes from our topsy turvy tomato planter. The tomatoes are pretty small! This one today is the smallest of the three we have picked, but the other two were not much bigger! Compared to the regular-sized peach, don't you agree that the tomato is pretty small?!! But there is not a blemish on them anywhere! I hope Tim's mom is having better results from hers!

I have had these seed pods for at least 2 months I would guess. I am going to assume that is long enough for them to dry out so I can plant them. I don't want to hang on to them any longer! As it is, I temporarily lost one because it got knocked off my desk and blended in with the carpet under my desk, LOL! Anyway, I am anxious to see if they actually grow into the Lilacs shown! The seed pods are from the lilacs that bloomed at church earlier in the year.

Happy 3rd Birthday to our granddaughter, Kara! Hope you had a great day today! And, I'm sure my singing Happy Birthday to you over the phone just made your day! :)

Anyway, I'm still working on VBS stuff. Today I worked on a bulletin board to put the riddles up. It is rather dull and unexciting, so I'm going to have to think of something else to do with it!

July 10, 2009

Today was a busy day, filled with lots of different activities. I woke up at the usual time (7:30 a.m.) when DH came into the bedroom after his shower to get dressed. But, I just laid there too lazy to get up. Well, the next thing I knew, DH was coming back into the bedroom at 8:45 because he had come back from the church after his morning devotions and realized I wasn't in my usual spot in my computer room where I read my Bible, eat my breakfast and check my e-mail. So I hopped out of bed, read my Bible, ate a banana for breakfast, checked my e-mail and then took my shower. By that time it was 10 o'clock. Got dressed, made the bed, dried my hair, made up a grocery list, got the car payment ready to drop off and called DH at the church to see "if maybe you wanted to go with me to get groceries and grab a sandwich at Walmart." He was game! On the way out, however, he decided he would rather have pizza. Worked for me! We got the groceries and by that time we were ready for some pizza. Pizza Hut had a buffet deal for lunch, so we had that, which was a WHOLE LOT more than we usually eat for lunch! But, it was good for a change! After lunch, we stopped at BB&T to drop off the car payment and we were ready to head back home. The rest of the afternoon I spent working on more VBS decorations. Normally we are thinking about dinner by 4:00, but not today! After that big lunch, we were going to just have corn on the cob for dinner at about 6:30. But I felt like I wanted more than that, so I heated up some left overs. And we pigged out like we hadn't eaten all day, LOL! And we topped it off with some chocolate chip muffins! YUMMY! After checking my e-mail again, I went back over to the fellowship hall to do some more painting. But, it was so nice out that I took a stroll around the yard and snapped some pictures first. And that is what my page is about today.

This week I have been working on VBS decorations. Today I finished this mural for the front of the auditorium in the fellowship hall where we will hold our VBS next month. It turned out really cute, at least I think so! I believe it is even better than the example provided because mine has more depth and texture to it. Tomorrow I will begin making a decoration that the kids can stick their faces through an opeing for a picture. Hopefully it will turn out as well as this mural did!

When I poured my cereal out of the box this morning, I happened to notice that the fruit, nuts and cereal in my bowl somehow waned in color compared to the cereal shown on the box! Guess photoshop worked for the picture of the cereal the same as it works for me on some of my pictures and pages! It's all good, however, because the cereal is good, even if it isn't as colorful as shown on the box! Guess I'll keep eating it! :)

Our last stop on the way back to NC after having a wonderful July 4th weekend was in WV with our daughter. We went to church with her last night and it was fun to see everyone again and have the service in their new building. Tim and I slept in Brad and Liz's RV, which is very comfortable. It was a nice, cool night and made for great sleeping! We didn't need the heat and we didn't need the air conditioner! I slept like a baby! Didn't get up until about 8 a.m.

After everyone had eaten breakfast and got dressed, we went to the Buffalo Elementary School so that Hannah and Ryan could play on the swings and slides before Tim and I headed back to NC. While there, Liz and I tried to out-do one another on the swings. I think I won, BTW :) but I'm sure Liz would not agree! I remembered how much I loved swinging as a girl. The higher I could get, the better I liked it! So, I guess Hannah gets that love from me! She also likes to go high enough that the seat jerks underneath her! Ahhhh! The feel of flying with just the swing keeping the gravity from crashing you to the ground!

July 5, 2009

We had a busy and tiring day today, but it was a good day! We left the hotel early this morning to get something to eat before church (what happened to our Continental breakfast??). We ended up at a gas station for breakfast, LOL! After we ate, we went to the church where we used to be members more than 25 years ago. My brother still attends there. And it is where mom and dad attended when they were living. Just about all of the faces we knew are gone and have been replaced with a new crop, which is a good thing.

I did not tell Joey that we would be there because I wanted it to be a surprise. When we got to the church his truck was there, but the doors were locked to the church and no lights were on. I finally called after we knocked on both doors and realized that, in deed, no one was there. I said, "Where are you? And why aren't you here with your truck?" or something to that effect. He paused, then said, "Are you at Grace?" which is the name of his church. I told him yes and asked how far away he was. So, he got there in about 10 minutes. In the meantime, the pastor's wife arrived and unlocked the door so we could go in. It was a good service and it was good to see the few faces that we did know. We treated Joey to lunch afterwards at Gold Star Chili, gave him a hello from my sister (in FL) and chit chatted for a few minutes before heading towards WV.

We arrived at our daughter's house at 4:33 (he had predicted 4:38). We went to church with them (the church Tim formerly pastored before we moved last year). It was wonderful to see everyone there again. Tim picked up our blind friend, Anthony, and took him to church with us. Liz fixed pizza for supper after church and then we age brownies and ice cream. Then I played with the kids and read to them.

Tomorrow we will head back to NC. We have traveled many miles this weekend, that is for sure! I will try to figure out how many miles we traveled later. Now, it is time for bed!

Happy 4th of July to All Americans! God Bless America!

We went to a parade with our daughters and their families today. We have such a hectic schedule coming up the rest of this summer and early fall that we decided to go out of town, especially to see Tim's parents. Since we live so far away from everyone, we decided to make a weekend of it and see our daughters (one traveled from WV to be with us at our oldest daughter's house in Ohio. We don't get to see our oldest daughter very often, so I was glad we took the opportunity to do so. And since we don't get to see Tim's sister very often and she lives kind of close to our oldest daughter, we all met at Frisch's Big Boy for breakfast. We had a good time. We are spending the night in KY (between Tim's dad and mom) and will get up and go to my brother's church in Florence. He does not know we are coming. We wanted to surprise him! I sure pray nothing happens that he ends up not being there! I hope he can eat lunch with us, too. We will see. Then we will travel towards NC, stopping in WV for the night at our daughter's house before continuing the trip on Monday. WHEW! That's alot of traveling in such a short time.

The first page below is all of the girls together at our daughter's house. Good picture, huh? Second and third pages are several pages of our time at the parade this morning.

We are headed north to visit our daughters for the weekend. We will also see Tim's mom and dad. And we will see my brother on Sunday when we visit his church, hopefully. Then we will head to WV Sunday afternoon to go to church with our daughter in Buffalo. I sure hope the humidity remains low through the weekend! It has been gorgeous the last couple of days!

This is a quick page created by Beth Rimmer and it is part of an 8 page album. The album is called, "A Star in Blue Jeans" and is perfect for 4th of July pages or just about anything, really! Click on the preview to go to the kit in Beth's store at Digitals.

Happy 4th to everyone!

BTW, I almost forgot. There is another freebie portion to my "Sweet Summertime" kit ready for you to download if you are interested.

Today I cleaned at the church and then I cleaned at the house. This was the last week I will clean the church because the regular cleaner will be back in town to do it. The extra money was nice, so I will gladly do it again when she needs me to.

Another month means another designer assigned to me at Digitals to do CT work for. This layout was done with one of her kits. She does beautiful work! Beth Rimmer's kit, Gazebo, can be found HERE and it is currently on sale for 30% off! As a matter of fact, lots of her things are on sale! You better check it out! I am looking forward to using lots of her Quick Pages this month for my 365 project, too! So, keep looking and you will see great things this month! Click HERE for her store.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all have a wonderful 4th of July weekend in America! Remember, our freedom was not free!

TOOT! TOOT!
First things first: Gotta toot my own horn today! This layout received Layout of the Day from all of the June 30th's posts at Digitals! WOOHOO! How do you like that, Liz! LOL! Every time I look at this picture, I imagine a mermaid princess going back into the water.

Below the layout is my Project 365 page for today.............................

OK, you will just have to humor me today. I pulled weeds, etc. You can read about it on the page. Anyway, nothing pretty about weeds or the dead plants I cut down, but that is what I did today, so to pretty the weeds up for my layout, I used this beautiful quick page! TADA! Doesn't that weed picture look much better now?! I saw that smile! :)
