Excerpt: The Pursuit of God, The Human Thirst for the Divine, A.W. Tozer

O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, The Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wondered so long. In Jesus' name. Amen

Guess what today has been?  CORRECT!!!  Thrift store day!!!  Found a few bargains, nothing to get toooooo excited about, really!  A baby doll bed for my girls when they come.  I decided today (since I now have 2 baby doll beds) that I need to find Miss Abigail a little baby doll.....one a little bit smaller than Rosa.  I'll be going back out to AC Moore again tomorrow (I was there 2x today, lol!) so I'll stop at our favorite Mega Thrift and look for a baby doll.

Other things found included foam letters for kids crafts, a VERY nice iPad cover for Tim, a few scrapbook items (paper and sheet protectors) and a few trinkets for my "junque canvas" projects that I am collecting for.

Speaking of scrapbooking items and canvas projects, here is what I've been working on this week.  I made an art journal book (after watching a free online video class).  I used mixed media paper and thick canvas and twine.  The canvas had to be primed (covered both sides with gesso, which is essentially acrylic paint) to make it stiff.  The red twine you see is what I used to sew the pages onto the canvas cover.  I took 20 sheets of 9x12 art paper and folded it in half so that it measures 9x6.  Here's what I learned about these folded sheets of paper.  Each folded sheet is called a folio.  So I had 20 folios.  I stacked 5 folios together to make a signature.  Since I had 20 sheets, I made 4 signatures.  The signatures are stitched with 1" stitches.  You mark them in 1" from the top and bottom edges and then mark 1" in the center.  So, here is what it looks like when it is together.

Then, using decorated tissue paper I got from Dollar Tree (tearing 4 different patterns and gluing them down) I have a cover that looks like this.  So, there is a pretty butterfly paper, a solid dark blue, a gingham and a white that is basically clear and lets the painted canvas show through.

Here's a close up of the picture above, left side then right side that is rotated clock-wise, showing some of the crinkley texture (which I'm not sure I like and may sand down).

My other project I worked on last night is a 20x20 crayola art canvas.  I did this project with Kara about a month ago and am just now getting around to doing this bigger one for myself.  The difference between my experimental one with Kara and this one is that I used REAL crayola crayons AND I painted my background to look like the sky.  The next thing I will do is to add fabric flowers and probably some leaves.  Plus, I want to put something like "Grandma's Flower Garden" as I am intending for this to be surrounded by square framed layouts of the grandkids.  So, I'll figure something out to write on here.  Anyway, I think Jessica and Kara will agree that it looks much nicer with the blue background.

One last picture of the "red sky at night" shot that I took over the church tonight.  It has been cold and cloudy and dreary ALL day today!  But, finally at 4:00 when Tim and I went out for dinner at Applebees, the sun began to peek through the clouds.  When we got home, we had this beautiful sky to look at!  A beautiful way to end a great day spent with hubby!

It looks like you've been very busy! Love the projects! I've wanted to try the crayon art myself.

I LOVE the butterfly project you did!! And the crayon one was awesome too. With our white flowers, a yellow or blue background would have been fantastic. Next time. ;-)
